3 books that might spark a little joy in your personal leadership practice

The books that connect with me and personal leadership are not in the personal leadership aisle of the library or bookstore. Personal leadership is a unique to-the-person experience. It is learned while riding a bike, bouncing a ball, sharing a conversation, engaging in an area of study … experiencing and engaging in life. I am in awe of the human spirit and our ability to learn and grow. Here are three books for your consideration:

The Bad Ass and Joy – what’s in a name?

How can we see ourselves and maybe others with fresh eyes? How might we grow into new ways of being and doing? Earlier this year I began to play with the idea of calling myself The Bad Ass. At that point in time I was doing some solo play … it brought perspective. No one else was aware, and I found this new name game intriguing. Being The Bad Ass allowed me to play with who I was and the different ways I might approach various situations.

Is joy playing hide and seek with you?

Joy is playing hide and seek with me and she may be winning! Ha! Oh my goodness it has been a difficult day! Too much news and I’ve barely been on-line. There are days, when if you want to experience joy you have to make it or find it yourself.  Have you tried …

Can we add more joy into our lives – even now?

I’ve been asked can we add joy into our lives even at times like these? Yes, play is just as important for adults as it is for children. A napkin, failure and joy

Today’s post was an experiment. I was very short on time today to write a blog post for my thirty-one day joy challenge and I didn’t have my laptop with me. I decided my blog post would be written on a napkin and posted exactly the way I wrote it. I mean everyone knows what first drafts look like – MESSY!  I was only going to post the picture, but I had trouble with uploading it as well as the resolution of the image. Here is the typewritten blog post …

Fear, invitations, and joy

Oh, my Fear! She can really pound on our doors with all kinds of concerns, worries, warnings. When Fear walks in, it can feel like Joy was sucked right out of the room. If we look in Fear’s pocket, we might see there is an envelope and that might just hold an invitation. The invitation is personal, different for everyone.

Musings on developing a practice

There is no one way to cultivate a practice. I hesitate to dissect, analyze or take too deep a dive into the attributes of a practice because when we tear something apart looking to see what “it” is, we may end up understanding more about the parts and less about the whole.

Slowing down for joy

I wasn’t exactly feeling joyful this morning. Here is some of what I wrote, “Joy is not exactly what I feel in this moment. I feel rushed. Why did I take on this thirty-one day challenge? It isn’t like I don’t have enough to do! How will I fit this in today? There are other work and home projects to attend to!”
